How Can I Improve My Indoor Air Quality?

The EPA has found out that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air in highly industrialized cities. Indoor air is also more stagnant. While we’d all like to be able to open the windows and get some fresh air, that’s not always an option, especially this winter. There are a few basic things you can do to increase your indoor air quality and create a healthier home environment.

Keep Your Home Clean

A vacuum with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter, good suction and rotating brushes is a sound investment in the air quality of your home. Vacuuming once a week with a HEPA-certified vacuum will lessen the dust and allergens collected in your carpets and upholstered furniture.

There are some things that escape your vacuum no matter how clean you keep your home. If you or someone in your home has allergies, a PureAir™ Air Purification System may be just what you need. This system is a whole-home solution that gets rid of particles and odors, and neutralizes chemical vapors – all things that may severely impact respiratory problems.

Air Purifying Plants

Plants are a natural way to purify your air and all plants absorb carbon dioxide and discharge oxygen. Also, there are some plants that have been found to also neutralize harmful toxins such as: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

If you want to add an air purifying plant to your home, you can find a list of those plants by looking at the NASA Clean Air Study. If you have pets, you’ll want to check and ensure any plants you’re bringing in to your home are not harmful to them if they decide to give them a taste test.

Keep Your Home Ventilated

Modern homes are designed to keep outdoor air out of your home in order to keep its energy efficiency. This reduced ventilation results in a build up of air pollutants indoors. While it’s easy to simply crack a window, that may not solve it, which is why we offer a few different ventilation solutions to help improve your indoor air quality and keep your home’s air clean and fresh.
